Website statistics and privacy

The system records the visited page, time, referring domain, broad device, browser, operating-system, language and viewport groups, approximate country, rounded regional coordinates, active foreground time, scroll depth in 25% bands, viewed page sections, email, phone and outbound-link actions, software download starts and App Store visits.

When a tagged campaign link is used, only the bounded utm_source, utm_medium and utm_campaign labels are retained. Full page query strings, search terms and arbitrary URL parameters are not recorded.

Real-user performance collection stores LCP, INP, CLS, FCP and TTFB measurements using a self-hosted copy of the open-source Web Vitals library. Client-side error reporting keeps only a general error type, the affected page and a same-site script path when available; error messages, stack traces and form contents are never collected.

An IP address is matched locally to approximate country and city/region coordinates and used with the browser user-agent only momentarily to calculate an anonymous identifier that changes every day. The country code and coordinates rounded to 0.1 degrees are retained. The raw IP address, exact location, city name and full user-agent are not written to analytics files, so visitors cannot be followed across days, devices or other websites.

The private dashboard's activity map uses these rounded coordinates to show ANIMIST site visits, store visits and app download starts. Markers represent approximate network regions rather than precise IP, household or street locations.

Approximate matching uses locally hosted DB-IP Lite databases. Visitor addresses are not sent to DB-IP or another geolocation service.

The public website does not use analytics cookies, local storage, advertising identifiers or third-party analytics services. Exact screen dimensions and persistent visitor identifiers are not collected.

Analytics files stay within the ANIMIST hosting account, are not sold or shared for advertising, and are automatically removed after 13 months. Browser Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control requests are respected.

The private statistics dashboard uses an essential session cookie only after an administrator signs in. This cookie is not used on the public website.
