Trance Organ privacy policy

Mac, iPhone, iPad and Apple TV; AUv3 on Mac and iOS · Last updated: 1 November 2026

ANIMIST OÜ (registry code 14092388, Estonia) provides this app. This policy explains its information handling and our support contact. Questions or privacy requests can be sent to appstore@animist.ee.

Scope and information handling

Trance Organ is an instrument for Mac, iPhone, iPad and Apple TV, with Audio Unit (AUv3) plug-ins on Mac and iOS. This policy covers the implemented standalone apps and plug-ins, including development builds. It does not announce that every version is already released.

Sound generation, audio processing, MIDI handling and preset searches take place locally. No ANIMIST account is required. The app has no advertising, third-party analytics SDK, cross-app tracking or developer-operated cloud account or storage service. It does not automatically upload your audio, MIDI performances, samples, presets or device history to ANIMIST.

Audio, MIDI and permissions

The app processes onscreen, touch or remote-control playing commands, MIDI notes and controllers, instrument parameters and audio-output information to play and monitor sound. It can read an audio sample file that you choose; this is not microphone recording. The current standalone implementation does not request microphone, camera, contacts, photos, location or motion-sensor input.

The Mac and iOS standalone apps can receive system MIDI through CoreMIDI. iOS and Apple TV can scan for and connect to Bluetooth LE MIDI devices, subject to system Bluetooth permission. The app processes nearby MIDI peripheral names, system-provided identifiers and connection state. Successfully connected device identifiers and last-known names are saved locally for reconnection; these are not a developer-side device database. Use Forget remembered devices in the connection screen to clear this reconnect history. This does not remove operating-system Bluetooth settings.

When used as an AUv3 instrument, Trance Organ receives MIDI, automation and relevant timing from its host and returns generated audio. A host may record performances, save projects or use its own cloud services. Its permissions, recordings and data practices are controlled by that host and your settings.

Local settings, samples and sound packs

The app saves personal presets, the standalone instrument's last sound state and preferences such as the requested audio buffer size in local app storage. Saved sounds can include parameter values, names, descriptions and embedded sample data with a sample name. AU hosts can also save instrument state and embedded samples in their projects. Libraries may be separate between app and host sandbox containers.

On Mac and iOS, you can select sample or sound-pack files to import and choose where to export sound packs. The app accesses the files you select. A shared .trancepack can contain your chosen names, descriptions and audio samples; review it before sending it to someone else and avoid unnecessary personal information in names or recordings.

The app does not automatically synchronize your library to iCloud or ANIMIST. If you choose Files, iCloud Drive, another synchronized folder or a sharing service, that provider handles the resulting copies under its own terms and privacy settings.

Optional Apple TV local-network transfers

Opening Transfer sound packs on Apple TV starts a temporary local-network HTTP service and advertises a Trance Organ service for discovery. The displayed address or QR code includes a random per-session token. A browser on your network can use that address to download the current sound or saved library, or send a sound pack to the TV. Network connections necessarily use local IP addresses and request information. Transfers go between your devices, not through an ANIMIST server.

These transfers use HTTP, not encrypted HTTPS. Anyone who obtains the active address and can reach the TV may be able to use it. Use a trusted private network, do not publish the address or forward its port to the internet, and close the transfer screen when finished. Closing it stops the listener and active connections. No arbitrary filesystem browsing is provided. Imported packs are saved locally; downloaded files remain on the receiving device until removed.

Apple services, purchases and diagnostics

The current reviewed development implementation has no in-app purchase, subscription or trial-activation system. Any future change that introduces those features will require an updated policy. If you obtain the app through Apple's stores or TestFlight, Apple independently handles distribution, any store payment and its own account and transaction records. ANIMIST does not receive payment-card details or Apple Account passwords through Trance Organ.

Apple may process system diagnostics, crash reports or TestFlight feedback under its services and your sharing settings. Trance Organ itself has no automatic ANIMIST telemetry-upload service. Local audio-route and error information shown in the interface is used to help operate the instrument, not sent to an ANIMIST analytics backend.

Retention and deletion

Live notes, processing buffers and connection state are used while the instrument runs. Saved sounds, embedded samples, last-state files, preferences and remembered Bluetooth devices remain in local app storage until replaced or removed. You can clear reconnect history with Forget remembered devices and manage exported files with your device's file tools. On Apple TV, the system may reclaim app storage, so export important sounds rather than relying on the TV as their only copy.

Removing the app can remove its local container, subject to operating-system backup, restore and offloading behavior. It does not automatically delete exported packs, copies on another device, host projects, host recordings or backups. Manage those through their respective app or storage provider. ANIMIST cannot remotely access or erase data held only on your devices.

Support and your rights

If you contact ANIMIST, we receive your email address, message and any attachments you choose to send. We use them to respond to your request, investigate problems and handle related legal obligations. Our email providers process correspondence to deliver and store it. Do not send passwords, account credentials or unnecessary personal information.

Where applicable, support processing is based on providing the assistance you request and our legitimate interest in resolving issues; legal obligations may require some records. Ask us about retention or deletion of correspondence. A parent or guardian may contact us about information a child has sent to support.

Depending on applicable law, you may request access, correction, deletion, a copy of personal data, or restriction of or objection to processing. You can withdraw consent for future optional processing without changing the lawfulness of earlier processing. ANIMIST can act on information it holds, not private device data or records independently controlled by another provider.

Service providers and international processing

Apple, advertising providers where used, and other services identified above process information under their own privacy notices. Hosting and email services also process data needed to deliver their services. Processing may take place outside your country or the European Economic Area; the applicable service notice describes its arrangements. Contact ANIMIST for questions about providers involved in handling information we hold.
