macOS standalone app and AUv3 instrument; Apple TV version planned · Last updated: 29 October 2026

ANIMIST OÜ (registry code 14092388, Estonia) provides this app. This policy explains its information handling and our support contact. Questions or privacy requests can be sent to appstore@animist.ee.

Scope and data collection

PÄRIMUS is a modeled folk-instrument app for Mac with an embedded Audio Unit (AUv3) instrument plug-in. This policy covers the standalone app and plug-in, including development builds. No ANIMIST account is required.

An Apple TV (tvOS) version is planned. The app-specific data practices described below refer to the current Mac implementation. This same policy page will be updated with the Apple TV version's actual permissions, storage and any connected services before that version is released. Mac file dialogs, DAW hosting and the AUv3 plug-in described here are not claims about Apple TV features.

The app and plug-in contain no advertising, third-party analytics, cross-app tracking, developer-operated account service or automatic telemetry-upload service. They do not send your music, MIDI messages or presets to ANIMIST. The current version has no in-app purchases, subscription system or developer license server.

Audio, MIDI and instrument controls

Sound synthesis, onscreen playing, audition phrases and MIDI processing take place on your Mac. The app processes note and velocity messages, controller movements, sustain, pitch bend and instrument parameters to produce sound. It does not use the microphone or record your performances. Its bellows, bow and airflow controls respond to MIDI controller messages, not physical movement tracking or device sensors.

The standalone app connects to MIDI sources made available through macOS Core MIDI and keeps active connection references in memory. Device connections and any system-configured MIDI routing are managed by macOS and your other MIDI software. PÄRIMUS does not maintain a developer-side device or performance history.

When used as an Audio Unit, the plug-in receives MIDI and automation from the host application and returns generated audio. A digital audio workstation (DAW) may record audio or MIDI, save project state, or use its own network and cloud services. Those activities are controlled by the host and your settings, not by an ANIMIST recording or upload service.

Preset files and project storage

The standalone app can save and load instrument presets using macOS file dialogs. It accesses the files you select. A preset contains Audio Unit state, including the instrument's parameter values and a state-format version. A loaded file's name is shown in the interface; avoid personal or sensitive information in filenames if you intend to share presets.

A DAW can save the plug-in's instrument settings within its project and restore them later. The standalone app does not automatically synchronize presets through iCloud or an ANIMIST cloud service. Files you choose to store in iCloud Drive, another synchronized folder, or a backed-up location are handled by the service you use.

Permissions, external links and Apple services

The app does not request access to your camera, microphone, contacts, photos or location. Its standalone file access is limited by the macOS sandbox to files you select. The plug-in runs within Apple's Audio Unit hosting and sandbox mechanisms.

Instrument information includes optional links to external research and cultural-reference websites. Opening one uses your browser; that website may receive your IP address, browser information and other data under its own privacy policy. Playing the instrument does not require opening those links. Artwork is bundled with the app; there is no runtime cloud AI generation service.

Apple's distribution, diagnostic-sharing, backup and other system services operate separately under Apple's policies and your system settings. The app shows local audio, MIDI or file errors to help you resolve problems and does not automatically upload those errors to ANIMIST.

Retention and deletion

Active performance and connection state is held in memory while the instrument runs. Preset files you save and state saved in DAW projects remain until you remove or replace them. Delete exported presets using Finder and manage project files, recordings and backups through your DAW or storage provider.

Removing the app does not automatically delete exported presets, DAW projects, recordings made by a host, or copies retained by cloud and backup services. ANIMIST cannot directly access or erase those files. Support correspondence is retained only as needed to respond, handle reasonable follow-up and meet applicable legal obligations; you may request its deletion using the contact below.

Support and your rights

If you contact ANIMIST, we receive your email address, message and any attachments you choose to send. We use them to respond to your request, investigate problems and handle related legal obligations. Our email providers process correspondence to deliver and store it. Do not send passwords, account credentials or unnecessary personal information.

Where applicable, support processing is based on providing the assistance you request and our legitimate interest in resolving issues; legal obligations may require some records. Ask us about retention or deletion of correspondence. A parent or guardian may contact us about information a child has sent to support.

Depending on applicable law, you may request access, correction, deletion, a copy of personal data, or restriction of or objection to processing. You can withdraw consent for future optional processing without changing the lawfulness of earlier processing. ANIMIST can act on information it holds, not private device data or records independently controlled by another provider.

Service providers and international processing

Apple, advertising providers where used, and other services identified above process information under their own privacy notices. Hosting and email services also process data needed to deliver their services. Processing may take place outside your country or the European Economic Area; the applicable service notice describes its arrangements. Contact ANIMIST for questions about providers involved in handling information we hold.

This website and policy changes

This policy page contains no advertising, analytics scripts or tracking cookies of its own. Hosting systems may process IP addresses and ordinary access logs to deliver and secure the page. Website privacy describes statistics used elsewhere on animist.ee.

We will revise this policy when the app or its data practices change and update the date above. Publishing a policy does not mean that every platform version is already available.
